Cosmetic Treatment Options

Adult Orthodontics

It's never too late to straighten your teeth and improve your smile. At Capital Esthetics & Family Dentistry, your teeth, smile, and bite can all benefit from adult orthodontic treatment.

It may be that you never previously visited an orthodontist, or that you wore braces when you were younger, and that your teeth have continued to move further out of alignment ever since. Because of this, it's entirely common for adults of any age to seek treatment to straighten their natural teeth—and actually, at least 25% of orthodontic patients are now adults. So, you'd be in good company. At our Vienna dental practice, we offer a number of orthodontic treatments for adults, and Dr. Pham is happy to guide you to the option that best aligns to your situation and goals.

While traditional metal braces are effective, more discreet options are often the most popular. Our own patients prefer to maintain a more natural, professional appearance while straightening their teeth. At Capital Esthetics, we specialize in adult orthodontics that are considered invisible: Invisalign® and Six Month Smiles®. During your initial visit with our dentist, we will review all of your treatment options with you and help you choose the one that will get you the best results.

Beyond giving you a more aesthetically pleasing smile, adult orthodontics will also give you a healthier and more youthful smile. Properly aligned teeth can help to improve your oral health and function. Orthodontic treatment can help you avoid severe tooth decay, gum recession, bone loss, TMJ/TMD pain, and irregular wear of the tooth enamel.

While we do welcome children and teens at Capital Esthetics for dental care, we do not provide orthodontic services for their age groups. If you have child or teen that can benefit from orthodontics, Dr. Diane Pham is happy to recommend a colleague of hers to discuss and handle the treatment for your child or teen.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is one of the orthodontic treatments we offer at Capital Esthetics & Family Dentistry. This discreet realigning treatment is nearly invisible and is removable, making it a popular choice for straightening.

Rather than using metal brackets and wires like traditional braces, the Invisalign® system involves wearing a series of custom-made, computer-generated plastic aligners to straighten your smile. Each set of aligner trays is uniquely designed to make minor changes to the alignment of the teeth. As you switch from one set of trays to the next set, your teeth will be gradually and gently guided to their properly aligned positions. Time between aligner trays can vary, but you can expect to be wearing each Invisalign® set for about two weeks before changing to the next. Length of the full orthodontic treatment also varies on a case-by-case basis as determined by Dr. Pham, but the average time it takes for Invisalign® to do its work is about 12 months. During that time you will also be visiting our office regularly so that Dr. Pham can make sure your smile is progressing as planned.

In general, Invisalign® can be used to treat the same orthodontic issues that are traditionally treated with braces. Dr. Pham may recommend Invisalign® to correct:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gapped and spaced teeth
  • Certain problems with the bite (e.g., overbite, open bite, underbite, or crossbite)

During your consultation, we will determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign®. Aside from being a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment, it should be noted that Invisalign® aligners are liked for their comfort and convenience. The aligners are custom-made from a smooth, thin plastic that won't catch your lip. The aligners are also removable, which makes eating, brushing, and flossing routines simpler than with alternative adult orthodontic options.

Six Month
Smiles®

If you want to achieve your new and improved smile quickly, Dr. Diane Pham can offer you Six Month Smiles®. This orthodontic treatment is a top choice for patients who want results fast, and the alternative adult orthodontic treatment we offer at Capital Esthetics.

Six Month Smiles® short-term braces are a great option for quickly straightening your teeth. A straight, beautiful smile is attainable in just a few months—average treatments last only six months, hence the name. For comparison, treatment time with traditional metal braces is generally between 18 and 30 months. This orthodontic process uses tried-and-true techniques coupled with modern technology to give you dramatic results in less time. An added benefit of shorter orthodontic treatment time is a more hygienic and comfortable process, which contributes to a healthier mouth overall.

Six Month Smiles® is not only fast, it's also discreet. The treatment involves a system of clear brackets strung together with tooth-colored wires that are barely visible in your mouth. This means that most people will not even notice that you are wearing braces. In addition, patients are often surprised to learn just how affordable Six Month Smiles® can be. The cost to straighten using Six Month Smiles® is typically less than that of traditional braces, dental veneers, and clear aligner therapy. Discreet, short-term braces are a great choice for our patients who are interested in a more efficient way to gain a straighter smile.

Porcelain
Dental Veneers

Porcelain dental veneers can dramatically improve your overall appearance. Our dentist may offer these thin, tooth-colored shells to improve discoloration or minor chipping in your teeth. Veneers may also be applied to correct more serious flaws in your teeth. Custom-made veneers can be applied to just one tooth or used to enhance your entire smile.

Porcelain dental veneers are very thin, semi-translucent shells, that are custom-shaped in a dental lab and bonded to the front surface of your teeth by your certified dentist. The shells are tooth-colored and look and feel like real teeth. The result is a transformed, custom smile that appears more uniform and fits perfectly to the proportions of your face.

Porcelain is our favored choice of material for dental veneers, with the alternative being composite resin. The translucence of porcelain in particular is a naturalistic match for the appearance of tooth enamel. It mimics the properties of tooth enamel, giving it realistic depth when hit with light. Porcelain is also chosen for its resistance to chipping thanks to the strength and durability of the material and the glaze that is applied to it. The very same glaze contributes to superior stain resistance against most food and beverages, ensuring that your new smile will maintain its brightness over time. Of course, care should always be taken when consuming certain known foods to cause discoloration. If well cared for, porcelain veneers can remain in good condition for 10 to 15 years before needing replacement.

Dr. Diane Pham may recommend porcelain veneers to correct and improve a variety of smile imperfections. We may suggest veneers to:

  • Close large spaces and gaps between teeth
  • Whiten teeth that are severely stained or discolored
  • Improve the appearance of irregularly shaped teeth
  • Correct slightly crooked teeth
  • Restore teeth that are broken, chipped, worn, or fractured

At Capital Esthetics, we would recommend porcelain veneers over a set of composite veneers because we prefer the aesthetic results and durability of porcelain. The specific composite resin we use in our dental studio is BPA-free and a high-quality, highly aesthetic material that can be matched to your natural tooth color. However, even with the highest-end composite resin, porcelain will always appear more natural. Porcelain is also the stronger material of the two, lasting twice as long as composite. Composite is the more affordable option, making it a good option in the short-term, but if it requires more frequent touchups or replacements per tooth and over time, the costs can quickly add up. We prefer to use our elite composite for dental fillings or partial tooth restorations.

If you are interested in porcelain veneers for a new, natural-looking smile, we would love to discuss this option with you in more depth at our dental studio.

Teeth Whitening

If your teeth appear yellow, dull, or stained, Dr. Diane Pham can provide you with a teeth whitening treatment to brighten your smile. Teeth whitening is one of the quickest and easiest cosmetic adjustments you can make to improve the look of your teeth and give you a more youthful appearance. It's no wonder that teeth whitening is so popular among our patients!

We offer professional teeth whitening at our dental studio to simply and effectively enhance your smile in as quick as one treatment. The process involves applying a powerful yet safe whitening gel to the outer surfaces of your teeth. The gel gets right to work on lightening the appearance of stains, discoloration, and yellowing on the tooth enamel, erasing years from your smile.

With professional teeth whitening, you can reverse the effects of staining and discoloration caused by:

  • The natural aging process
  • Years of poor dental hygiene habits
  • Consumption of certain foods and drinks (e.g., berries, tea, wine, coffee, and soda)
  • Smoking and use of other tobacco products
  • Illness
  • Certain medications
  • Fluorosis

At Capital Esthetics, we have different whitening options for you to choose from. Dr. Pham will talk to you about the benefits of in-office whitening treatments and at-home whitening systems and help you decide on the right treatment and treatment length to get you that whiter smile.
